At some point in our lives we all encounter difficult times when circumstances present new challenges and demands. This book builds on the principles and good practice described in the EYLF and provides educators with practical ideas to help very young children cope with tough times in their lives. It provides useful advice on helping babies and children cope with everyday feelings such as anger, low self-esteem or insecurity as well as more specific anxieties such as moving house or the arrival of a new baby brother or sister.
This accessible resource is packed full of suggestions that can be dipped into when a young child appears troubled or distressed. The activities are designed for use in one-to-one or very small group situations to meet the needs of individual children at a time of stress. They aim to:
• make use of everyday objects and toys readily available in most settings
• be quick and easy to use
• encourage children to express their feelings and anxieties
• provide plenty of extra ideas for taking activities further if needed
• build on the principles and practice outlined in the EYLF
