Real Life Maths Investigations is a series of three designed to encourage children to "learn mathematics by doing". They use a problem sloving approach to mathematics using activities that the children apply to real life situations. The skills and concepts covered relate directly to theNational statements and include the strads of number, space, measurement, chance and data and mathematical tools and procedures.Each unit contains material that will:-develop children's mathematical thinking;encourage children to use maths in situations they meet everyday;cover skills, concepts and applications from all areas of the mathematics curriculum;give children opportunities to use the three methods of computations - mental, written and calculator;present mathematics in context so children appreciate the impritance of the skills they learn;provide children with interesting activities suitable for all levels of ability in the classroom;allow teachers to observe children applying knowledge; anddevelop an integrated approach to teaching all key learning areas.
